The Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 abolished structure plans and replaced them with Regional Spatial Strategies. It is from these that the district and area councils now base their local development frameworks.
In 2010 the new government decided to abolish them but their attempt to do so was overturned by the courts on the grounds that to do so was outside of its powers. In 2011 a Commons Select Committee report recommended that they should stay.
They are now being revised and updated. The copies available from this website are updated regularly to ensure that they contain the latest revisions and updates.
These are based on Regional Spatial Strategies and comprise a portfolio of documents, usually combined as one.
